Gastonia, NC - Carolina Speedway is set to kick off it’s 46th season in grand fashion March 13-14 with the Carolina Clash sanctioned 9th Annual Skyler Trull Memorial.

It will be the sixth consecutive season the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series has opened its schedule at Carolina Speedway. Also on the card will be a $2,000 to win GM Performance Late Model event, a $750 to win Open Wheel Modified feature. The Street Stocks, Pure Stock Fours and Renegades will also be on hand.
“We are very excited to be opening the season with such a large event,” said Mark Gibbons of Carolina Speedway. “This will be one of the biggest weekends in the history of the speedway and we are looking to kick off 2009 with a bang.”

The Skyler Trull Memorial event will be returning to Carolina after a one-year hiatus. The 50-lap feature event will pay $5,000 to win and is expected to draw a very large field of cars.
“We are very pleased to be returning to Carolina Speedway for 2009,” said Skyler Trull’s dad Larry Trull. “Carolina was Skyler’s home track and the management there has done a tremendous job in making the speedway better than it ever has been before.”
In 2001, Lowry Trull wanted to honor his granddaughter with a race in her memory. He did this, by sponsoring a race for the fans of late model racing. Each year the event has grown and 2009 will mark the 9th Annual Skyler Trull Memorial dirt track race.
Skyler was the infant daughter of Larry and Jackie Trull. Larry is a crewmember of the Doug Sanders race team. Skyler was diagnosed with Leukemia when she was six months old. After being in remission for four and one half years she was found to have another more serious form of the disease. She passed away March 14th at the age of five. Skyler touched lives in so many ways with her smile, big blue eyes and radiant red hair. You did not have to know her to feel the love that she held within her.
Her family would like to thank everyone that has contributed to the Skyler Trull Memorial over the years and the memory of this precious little girl.
The full schedule of events will be announced soon.
